International Asteroid Day 2022 – Every year, International Asteroid Day is observed on June 30th across the world in order to create awareness about asteroids and what can be done to protect the Earth, its families, communities, and future generations from a catastrophic event. this day is also known as Asteroid Day.

International Asteroid Day 2022: History

• UN General Assembly passed a resolution in order to “observe each year at the international level the anniversary of the Tunguska impact over Siberia, Russian Federation in December 2016.
• The Association of Space Explorers proposed the idea to observe World Asteroid Day and was endorsed by the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS).
• The first International Asteroid Day took place in 2015.
• The day marks the anniversary of the Siberian Tunguska event. the event was held on 30th June 1908.
• the Siberian Tunguska event was the most harmful known asteroid-related event on Earth in recent history.
