World Population Day 2022: Date, Theme, History and Significance

Every year, World Population Day is observed on 11th July in order to mark the problems of overpopulation. this day also creates awareness regarding the effects of overpopulation on the environment and development.

  • It also marks various population issues like the importance of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, and human rights.

World Population Day 2022: Theme

  • The theme for World Population Day 2022 is “A world of 8 billion: Towards a resilient future for all – Harnessing opportunities and ensuring rights and choices for all”.
  • The theme of World Population Day 2021 is “Rights and choices are the answer: Whether baby boom or bust, the solution to shifting fertility rates lies in prioritizing the reproductive health and rights of all people.”

World Population Day 2022: History

  • In 1989, the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Program found World Population Day. The first World Population Day was observed on 11th July 1989 and in 2021, people will observe the 31st Population Day in the world.
