Punjab and Haryana’s Capital Chandigarh launches a mobile application “Carbon Watch” in order to assess the carbon footprint of an individual. after launching the app, Chandigarh became the first state or Union Territory in India
What is Carbon Watch App
- The mobile application will suggest methods to reduce carbon footprints.
- Users will fill details in four parts — Water, Energy, Waste Generation and Transport (Vehicular movement).

NSO predicts Indian economy to contract by 7.7% in 2020-21
As per the National Statistical Office (NSO), the Indian Economy will contract 8% for 2020-21.
- The government had forecasted a GDP contraction of 7.7 per cent in its first advance estimate.
- As per the 3rd quarter GDP data, the Indian economy came out of the recession and expanded by 0.4 per cent.

Michael Somare (First Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea) died at 84
The First prime minister of Papua New Guinea, Michael Somare “father of the nation” has passed away at the age of 84. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
- Somare led the Pacific archipelago to independence from Australia in 1975
- He has served four times as prime minister of the country between 1975 to 2011 (17 years Span).
Malayalam poet Vishnunarayanan Namboothiri died at 81
The Noted and Well-known Malayalam poet Vishnunarayanan Namboothiri has passed away at the age of 81. he was a recipient of the Padma Shri (2014).
- Also, he was a scholar of language and the Vedas and an orator.
- He was honoured with the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, Kendra Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, Vallathol Award, Odakkuzhal Award and the Mathrubhumi Literary Award in the field of poetry.
