King Carl Gustaf Scholarship is offered at Uppsala University and is aimed at supporting meritorious students who cannot fund their education in Sweden. The scholarship will cover the full tuition fees of the recipients who will pursue their master’s degree at Uppsala University

  • King Carl Gustaf Scholarship will be only applicable to international students. The applications starts on January 10, 2025, and ends on 22 January 2025 at 23:59 CET.
  • Candidates will be shortlisted based on academic merit and not financial requirements. The master’s program must be on campus and English-taught, based in Uppsala or Gotland.

King Carl Gustaf Scholarship 2025 – Overview

The King Carl Gustaf Scholarship is for students who live in unsafe and dangerous conditions in areas affected by conflict or natural disasters. Under the program, the full cost of tuition fees for studies at Uppsala University will be covered. However, The scholarships will not cover living expenses.

Eligibility Criteria

Students from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Mexico, Myanmar, Philippines, South Africa, Sudan, Ukraine and Yemen can apply.

  • Must be a citizen of one of the following countries: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Mexico, Myanmar, Philippines, South Africa, Sudan, Ukraine or Yemen.
  • Must reveal why you are particularly vulnerable and therefore in need of the educational environment at Uppsala University, as well as that you have the academic talent required.
  • Will only be provided with the King Carl Gustaf scholarship for a Master’s programme at Uppsala University chosen as first priority (the programme which you have ranked the highest of the four programmes you can choose at University Admissions).
  • Must have applied for the Master’s programme before the University Admissions deadline.
  • Must follow the entry requirements for the programme you applied to. The application fee and your complete supporting documents must be obtained by University Admissions before the deadline.

Students admitted to the following programmes will be not eligible for a scholarship:

  • Joint Nordic Master’s Programme in Environmental Law
  • Master’s Programme in Biology NABiS Nordic Master in Biodiversity and Systematics
  • Master’s Programme in Implementation, Transformative Learning and Sustainability
  • Master’s Programme in Religion in Peace and Conflict
  • Master’s Programme in Transformative Game Design
  • Master’s Programme in Turkic Studies

  • why you are vulnerable and in need of education at Uppsala University?

Selection Process

The scholarship selection process will be conducted at the same time as the programme admission selection process. Applicants must follow the general and programme-specific entry requirements for the study programme, as well as all the eligibility criteria for the scholarship programme to get the scholarship.

  • Why it would be safer and more viable for you to do your degree in Sweden.
  • Your academic record meets the eligibility criteria and is exceptional.
