Hindi writer Dr. Asghar Wajahat awarded with 31st Vyas Samman

Well-known Hindi writer Dr Asghar Wajahat has been conferred with 31st Vyas Samman at a function in New Delhi for his play Mahabali. Asghar Wajahat focuses on Mughal emperor Akbar and poet Tulsidas. Through the play, he tries to answer who is the real Mahabali, the poet or the emperor.

Who is Vyas Samman:

  • K K Birla Foundation presented the Vyas Samman or outstanding literary work in Hindi authored by an Indian citizen published during the last 10 years.
  • Vyas Samman award carries Rs 4 lakh and a citation and a plaque.
  • The award was started presenting in 1991.
  • Ram Vilas Sharma was honoured with the inaugural Vyas Samman in 1991 for his work ‘Bharat ke Pracheen Bhasha Parivar aur Hindi’.
  • 30th Vyas Samman was received by Professor Sharad Pagare for his novel titled ‘Patliputra ki Samragi’.
