ITBP establishes Water Sports & Adventure Training Institute in Uttarakhand

On 16th April 2021, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju Ji made an inauguration of ‘Water Sports and Adventure Institute (WSAI)’.

  • Water Sports and Adventure Institute (WSAI) was established by The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
  • It is located near Tehri Dam Reservoir in Uttarakhand state.
  • It will play a role in promoting national and international tourism and increase the opportunity for creating more employment for the people of the state.

Priyanka Mohite as First Indian Woman To Scale Mt Annapurna

On 16th April 2021, Priyanka Mohite has become the first Indian woman to scale Mt Annapurna (the 10th highest mountain in the world).

  • Priyanka also made a record for being the first woman in India to scale Mt Makalu (5th highest mountain in the world, height is 8,485 metres).
  • She also climbed Mt Everest in 2013 and Mt Lhotse in 2018. She scaled Mt Everest at the age of 21 and she became the 3rd youngest Indian to do so.

ICRA Slashes India’s GDP Forecast by 0.5% to 10.5% in FY22

The domestic rating agency ICRA has slashed India’s GDP forecast by 0.5 per cent or 2021-22 and has estimated the economy will grow 10 – 10.5% for the FY2021-22.

  • earlier was 10-11 per cent estimated.
  • The reason for this downward revision in the forecast can be due to the lockdowns and restrictions which are being imposed once again due to surging COVID-19 cases.
