Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurates NCERT’s National Yoga Olympiad 2022

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has inaugurated NCERT’s three-days National Yoga Olympiad 2022 on 19th June 2022. Ministry of Education and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) are conducting National Yoga Olympiad 2022 from June 18 to 20, 2022.

  • Almost 600 students from 26 states/UTs and Demonstration Multipurpose Schools of Regional Institutions of Education will join the forthcoming National Yoga Olympiad.
  • NCERT will also conduct yoga olympiads at the school, block, district and state levels.

Ministry of Culture organised ‘Yoga Mahotsav’ at Purana Qila, New Delhi, as part of the International Day of Yoga 2022 celebrations in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Yoga Mahotsav aims to instil the everlasting value of cultural wellness amongst the people.

Equitas Small Finance Bank to launch a kids’ savings account called ENJOI, on Father’s Day – 19 June 2022.

  • The bank will provide an option for a personalized debit card to minors aged 10 & above.

China launches third, most ‘advanced aircraft’ carrier named ‘Fujian’

China launched its third aircraft carrier named ‘Fujian‘ was launched at a brief ceremony held at Shanghai’s Jiangnan Shipyard. Fujian aircraft carrier is the country’s most advanced as well as the first “fully domestically-built” naval vessel.

  • The Fujian is the first domestically designed and built catapult aircraft carrier in China.
  • The 3rd aircraft carrier has been built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited.
  • It has a displacement of more than 80,000 tonnes.
  • The aircraft has been equipped with electromagnetic catapults and arresting devices.

The Centre has appointed new chief justices in six high courts. The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointment to six high courts i.e. Delhi, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Gauhati.

  • The Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court will be Justice Vipin Sanghi of the Delhi High Court.
  • the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court will be Justice Ujjal Bhuyan of the Telangana High Court.
  • The Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court will be Justice Amjad Ahtesham Sayed of the Bombay High Court.
  • the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court will be Justice Shinde Sambhaji Shiwaji of the Bombay High Court.
  • The Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court has been named Justice Rashmin M Chhaya of the Gujarat High Court. 
  • Satish Chandra Sharma, Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, is appointed to the Delhi High Court.

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has won his first top podium finish of the season by winning the javelin throw event at the Kuortane Games in Finland and defeating reigning world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada.

  • Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra throw a javelin at 86.69m.
  • Trinidad and Tobago’s 2012 Olympics champion Keshorn Walcott was second with 86.64m.
  • Peters was third with a best throw of 84.75m.

PM Modi launches torch relay for 44th Chess Olympiad

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the historic torch relay for the 44th Chess Olympiad on 19th June 2022 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi in a glittering ceremony. During this occasion, FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri. Anurag Singh Thakur, Minister of State for Sports Shri. Nishith Pramanik, Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand, the Indian Chess contingent and members of Chess Federations from various countries attended the event.

  • PM Modi handed it over to Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand.
  • The torch will be brought to 75 cities in a period of 40 days before the final culmination at Mahabalipuram near Chennai.

FIFA announces 2026 World Cup venues across U.S., Canada and Mexico. The 16 host cities are Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Guadalajara, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Miami, Monterrey, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto and Vancouver.

  • The tournament will have 48 teams for the first time and an increase from the 32 that will contest in FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 from November 21 – to December 18th, 2022.
