Sanchar Saathi Portal
The Central Government will launch a new Portal called “Sanchar Saathi Portal i.e. www.sancharsathi.gov.in”, aimed at helping people track and trace their mobile phones. Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav will officially inaugurate the Sanchar Saathi portal on 17th May on the occasion of World Telecom and Information Society Day.
- Sanchar Saathi Portal will help lakhs of people in the country track their lost or stolen mobile phones.
- It will provide its services across the country and will work to track lost or stolen mobiles across all mobile networks and telecom circles.
- Mobile users will also be able to access their SIM card numbers through this portal.
- If someone is found using the SIM through the mobile owner’s ID, then he/she can also be blocked.
Bhupender Yadav launches Meri LiFE App
Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Shri Bhupender Yadav launched a mobile application, called “Meri LiFE” (My life). The “Meri LiFE” (My life) App aims to catalyze youth action for climate change as a build-up to June 5, World Environment Day.
This app has been inspired by the concept of LiFE, envisioned by the Prime Minister at COP 26, which highlights mindful and deliberate utilization instead of mindless and wasteful consumption.
National Medical Commission makes unique ID mandatory for doctors
According to the new Regulations of the National Medical Commission (NMC), doctors will now have to get a “Unique Identification Number” (UID) to practice medicine in our country. This identification number is developed with the focus of the NMC Ethics Committee in order to enable the practitioner to easily qualify for registration and medical practice in the NMR.
Minister of State L. Murugan to lead delegation to Cannes Film Festival
Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan is going to lead a delegation to Cannes International Film Festival 2023, the Ministry said on May 14th, 2023. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur will address the inaugural session via a video message to showcase India as a global hub for content creation at the 76th edition of the festival.

Pasang Dawa Sherpa, also known as Pa Dawa, successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest for the 26th time and has equalled the record set by another Nepalese guide.
- As per the Himalayan Database, Nepal’s Himalayas, Pa Dawa had previously climbed Everest 25 times, including two ascents in 2022.

Narendra Singh Tomar Inaugurates Integrated Biological Control Laboratory in Hyderabad
The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Government of India, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurated the Integrated Biological Control Laboratory at the National Institute of Plant Health Management (NIPHM) Hyderabad, Telangana on 15th May 2023.
- The new Integrated Bio Control Laboratory (BC Lab) is a state-of-the-art laboratory in NIPHM, that has facilities for giving hands-on experience on production methodologies for Biopesticides, Biocontrol agents such as predators and parasitoids, Entomopathogenic fungi, Biofertilizers, NPV, Pheromone and Botanicals.
14 more Special Development Councils created in Odisha
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced to the creation of 14 Special Development Councils (SDCs), aimed at preserving and propagating the tribal culture and protecting the unique identity of all tribal groups of the State.
- 14 Special Development Councils (SDCs) will be for Angul, Bolangir, Balasore, Bargarh, Boudh, Devgarh, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Nayagarh, and Sambalpur districts.
- After the creation of the 14 new SDCs, The total number of special development councils will increase to 23 from 9.

Praveen Sood as the new CBI Director
The 1986-batch, Karnataka cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Praveen Sood has been elected the head of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a period of two years from the date of taking charge, after Subodh Kumar Jaiswal completes his tenure on May 25th, 2023. A government order was released by the committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- He is currently the Director General and Inspector General of Police, in Karnataka State, and is posted in Bengaluru.
- He is an alumnus of IIT Delhi and IIM-Bangalore.
- He served as Superintendent of Police, Bellary and Raichur before getting posted to Bangalore city as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order.

4th India-Indonesia Bilateral Exercise Samudra Shakti 2023
Indigenously designed & built ASW Corvette INS Kavaratti has participated in the 4th edition of India-Indonesia Bilateral exercise Samudra Shakti-23 which is being held from 14-19 May 23. Indian Navy Dornier Maritime Patrol aircraft and Chetak helicopter joined the exercise.
From the Indonesian side, KRI Sultan Iskandar Muda, CN 235 Maritime Patrol Aircraft and AS565 Panther Helicopter have participated.
Ministry of Defence approves 4th positive indigenization list
The Defence Ministry has given its approval for the fourth positive indigenization list, which includes 928 strategically important line replacement units, sub-systems, spares and components.
4th positive indigenization list aims to promote self-reliance (‘self-reliance’) in the defence sector and reduce imports by Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs).
