Nobel Prize 2022: Carolyn Bertozzi, Morten Meldal & Barry Sharpless gets Nobel Prize in chemistry

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2022 has been presented jointly to Carolyn R. Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and K. Barry Sharpless “for the development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry” at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm. Carolyn R. Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and K. Barry Sharpless received Nobel Prize in chemistry for their work in ‘click chemistry’, in which molecules snap together fast and firmly, without the need for a long, complicated process and too many unwanted by-products in the field of medical science, including the treatment of cancer.

  • The Nobel prize carries a cash award of 10 million Swedish kronor (nearly $900,000) and will be provided on December 10th, 2022.
  • Barry Sharpless and Morten Meldal have laid the foundation for a functional form of chemistry – click chemistry – in which molecular building blocks snap together quickly and efficiently.
  • Carolyn Bertozzi has taken click chemistry to a new dimension and started utilising it in living organisms.

World Teachers’ Day 2022

Every year, World Teachers’ Day or International Teachers’ Day is observed on October 5 across the world to thank and honour teachers for their contributions to their students. On this day, various meetings, and conferences are conducted to identify problems being faced by teachers of the country as well as globally and find solutions to those issues.

  • The 2022 Year marks the 28th anniversary of World Teachers’ Day and the theme is “The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers”.
  • The day was Set up in 1994 after the UNESCO Recommendation concerning teachers to mark “teaching in freedom” in 1996.
  • In 1994, October 5 was proclaimed as World Teachers’ Day by UNESCO to honour the adoption of the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation.
  • the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared October 5 to be World Teachers’ Day after the adoption of this recommendation.
