Nobel Prize 2022: Carolyn Bertozzi, Morten Meldal & Barry Sharpless gets Nobel Prize in chemistry – The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2022 has been presented jointly to Carolyn R. Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and K. Barry Sharpless “for the development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry” at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm. Carolyn R. Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and K. Barry Sharpless received Nobel Prize in chemistry for their work in ‘click chemistry’, in which molecules snap together fast and firmly, without the need for a long, complicated process and too many unwanted by-products in the field of medical science, including the treatment of cancer.
The Nobel prize carries a cash award of 10 million Swedish kronor (nearly $900,000) and will be provided on December 10th, 2022.
Barry Sharpless and Morten Meldal have laid the foundation for a functional form of chemistry – click chemistry – in which molecular building blocks snap together quickly and efficiently. Carolyn Bertozzi has taken click chemistry to a new dimension and started utilising it in living organisms.
