Good Governance Day 2021: History, Theme – Every year, the day of 25th December is observed as the Good Governance Day in the country. the main purpose of this day is to create awareness about accountability in government among the citizens.
- This day also marks the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

- Prime minister Narendra Modi designated 25th December as the Good Governance Day. and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya were named for the highest civilian award of the nation, Bharat Ratna on 23rd December 2014.
- Vajpayee is considered as embodiment of good governance
About Atal Bihari Vajpayee:
- Atal Bihari Vajpayee had served as the Prime Minister of India three times.
- In his 1st term, Vajpayee served as PM of India for only 13 days in 1996.
- In his 2nd term, Vajpayee served as PM of India for 13 months from March 1998 to April 1999.
- In his 3rd term, Vajpayee served as PM of India a full term from 1999 to 2004.
- He was elected to the Lok Sabha seven times.
- Atal Bihari Vajpayee was honoured with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award in 2015.
