Avani Chaturvedi — 1st IAF woman pilot to be part of wargames abroad

Indian Air Force woman fighter pilot and squadron leader Avani Chaturvedi is ready to join the Indian contingent for the aerial war games to be held outside the country. The exercise Veer Guardian 2023 will be held between January 16 and January 26 at the Hyakuri Air Base and its surrounding airspace in Omitama, and the Iruma Air Base in Sayama in Japan.

Who is squadron leader Avani Chaturvedi?

  • Avani Chaturvedi is India’s one of the first three woman fighter pilots.
  • Chaturvedi is a Su-30MKI pilot.
  • She was born and brought up in Madhya Pradesh.
  • she holds a degree in Bachelor of Technology from Banasthali (university).
  • Chaturvedi also learned aviation as an additional discipline at the campus aviation school.

Dr Jitendra Singh unveils the theme for National Science Day 2023, titled ” Global Science for Global Wellbeing”

On 9th January 2023, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh released the theme for the “National Science Day 2023”, titled “Global Science for Global Wellbeing” at National Media Centre, aimed at raising public appreciation of the scientific issues in a global context which is having a bearing upon global wellbeing. Every year, National Science Day (NSD) is celebrated on 28 February to commemorate the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’. in 1986, the Government of India designated 28 February as National Science Day (NSD).

  • On this day Sir C.V. Raman announced the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’ for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930.

Osmanabad District Court becomes first court in Maharashtra to introduce e-system of functioning

The Osmanabad District Court becomes the first court in Maharashtra to introduce an e-system of functioning, was inaugurated on Sunday by the Bombay High Court, Aurangabad bench’s Judge, and Osmanabad Guardian Judge, Arun Pednekar. Under this e-system, all the court-related work such as filing, payment, and other court services, etc. can be done through the mobile app or online modes. a library of the court was also converted into digital mode.

  • 500 lawyers in the district have already registered for the new system.
  • Osmanabad is the first court in the district to be operated via a computer system as per the directives of the Supreme Court and High Court.

Village in Anantnag gets electricity for first time in 75 years

Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag gets electricity connection for the first time after almost 75 years of Independence. Under the PM Development Package scheme, Electricity in Tethan in the Dooru block of Anantnag was provided.

Uttarakhand’s ‘Sinking’ Town Joshimath Declared Disaster-Prone Area

Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana said that the Joshimath area in Uttarakhand has been declared a disaster-prone area, with increasing land subsidence and cracks detected. On 3 January 2023, residents saw cracks in their roads had increased in size. Cracks have been detected in 603 buildings.

  • Hotel Mount View and Malari Inn have been banned for operation and accommodation, until further orders Under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
  • Ho Hare Helang bypass construction work by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has also been banned with immediate effect, till further orders.

Indian-origin Manpreet Monica Singh has been elected as the first female Sikh judge of the United States. She took the oath of office as a judge in Texas’ Harris County Civil Court. Manpreet Monica Singh was born and raised in Houston, US.

  • She studied at the University of Texas at Austin and the South Texas College of Law.

SBI Card re-appoints Rama Amara as MD & CEO

SBI Cards and Payment Services board approved the re-appointment of Rama Mohan Rao Amara as managing director (MD) & chief executive officer (CEO) of the company for a further period of one year effective from 30 January 2023.

  • Rama Mohan Rao Amara is an engineering graduate and Rao, deputy managing director at State Bank of India (SBI), took the helm at SBI Card on 30 January 2021.

Meta has appointed Vikas Purohit as the Director of Global Business Group in India. Vikas Purohit will lead the company’s relationship with the biggest brands and advertising agencies in the country to help drive revenue for the company.

  • Purohit is having over 20 years of experience in senior business, sales, and marketing roles, having worked at companies like Tata Cliq, Amazon, Reliance Brands, Aditya Birla Group, and Tommy Hilfiger before heading retail at Reliance Brand.

CJI Chandrachud to be conferred with ‘Award for Global Leadership’ by Harvard Law School Center

Harvard Law School Center selected Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud for the “Award for Global Leadership” in recognition of his lifetime service to the legal profession in the country and around the world.

  • Chandrachud holds an LLM degree and a Doctorate in Juridical Sciences (SJD) from the Harvard Law School in the United States.
  • Justice Chandrachud was part of the apex court benches that delivered several landmark verdicts such as the Ayodhya land dispute case.
  • He was sworn in as the 50th CJI on November 9, 2022.

5th Maratha Open Tennis Tournament 2023

Dutchman Talon Kriegspoor won the ATP International title for the first time and was awarded a prize of Rs 88 lakh. Kriegspoor defeated Frenchman Benjamin Bonji. The 5th Maratha Open International Tennis Tournament was held in Pune. Belgium’s Sander Gilli-Joran Ligen won the title and beat India’s Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan-Sreeram Balaji (both from Tamil Nadu) in the doubles final.

Father of laparoscopic surgery Dr Tehemton E Udwadia died in Mumbai

A renowned Indian surgeon who is best known as the father of laparoscopic surgery in India, Dr. Tehemton E Udwadia passed away on 7th January 2023 after suffering from health problems for the past few months.

  • He was born on October 10, 1930, in Bombay, India
  • he had his medical degree from Grant Medical College in Bombay.
  • Dr. Udwadia started his career as a general surgeon and showed his interest in laparoscopic surgery.
  • Dr. Udwadia is credited with introducing laparoscopic surgery to India in the early 1980s.
  • He served as the head of the Department of Surgery at Grant Medical College.
  • He made a lot of contributions to the field of medicine and was honored with numerous awards.
  • In 2002, he was honored with the Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian awards in India, for his contributions to the field of medicine.
