BCG Vaccine –

  • The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is going to carry a 10-month trial on the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine. the trial will aim to make a vaccine that may help to prevent COVID-19 virus in human body.
  • BCG vaccine has been obtained from an isolate of Mycobacterium Bovis. Mycobacterium Bovis utilize a live attenuated strain where the pathogen’s potency is disabled artificially. this process is used in all parts of the world, India too. for last decades India uses it to treat tuberculosis (TB).

What is ICMR’s Trial:

  • ICMR is going to conduct a trial that aims on the vaccine’s potential to reduce the chance of COVID-19 patients deaths, in particular among those whose age are above 60.
