Every year, World Puppetry Day is observed on March 21 to recognize puppetry as a global art form. The day also pays tribute to and honors puppeteers from around the world. In 2003, UNIMA — Union Internationale de la Marionnette created World Puppetry Day.

History of World Puppetry Day
- In 2000, the Iranian puppet theatre artist Javad Zolfaghari gave the World Puppetry Day at 18 Congress of the Union Internationale de la Marionnette, (UNIMA) in Magdeburg.
- In 2002, UNIMA proclaimed this day and the next year (2013), The first celebration was organized.
