The main objective of the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People (ASSITEJ) is to unite theatres, organizations, and individuals throughout the world who make theatre for children and young people.

History of World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People
In 2001, The World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People was first celebrated on March 20. The campaign is associated with the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People. In 2021, ASSITEJ International Vice President Sue Giles AM wrote a note to mark the day and posted a message that the rights of children to the arts and culture should remain a focus and is something that everyone should champion.
Significance
On this day, various activities like conferences, performances, workshops, and special media events, with the hashtag #takeachildtothetheatre are held by the ASSITEJ Centres around the world.
World Performance Week
ASSITEJ International initiated the World Performance Week concept with the help of other international associations working with different live performance-related art forms that celebrate their World Days from March 20 to March 27.
