World Day of the Sick is an annual observance and is observed on February 11. The day is also known as Catholic Church Awareness Day, and aims to pray and share, sacrificing one’s suffering for the welfare of the church, and urging people to see the face of Christ in his or her ailing brother or sister.
History
The day was designated by Pope John Paul II in 1992, urging people to pray for individuals who are ill and their caretakers. On February 11, 1993, the first World Day of the Sick was celebrated.
