The Prime Minister called a high-level meeting to get know about steps being taken in response to the Vishakhapatnam gas leak incident. at nearly 3 am, the Styrene gas was leaked in a chemical plant LG Polymers industry in RR Venkatapuram village, Gopalapatnam Mandal in Visakhapatnam District, Andhra Pradesh.
Important Points to Know :
The Styrene gas is known as toxic gas naturally. it can result irritation to the skin, eyes, and causes respiratory problems as well other serious medical conditions.
In Andhra Pradesh, 10 people has been died and more than 1000 people are getting sick because of the alleged gas leak.
The plant is used to produce raw material styrene which is highly flammable and it generates poisonous gas durin burnt.

Recent Gas leak incidents in India –
In 1984 – in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, the gas was leaked from Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant. more than 3787 people were died in this incident.
In 2011, a chlorine gas was leaked from treatment plant in Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune. almost 20 people were seriouly injured.
In 2014, the poisonous gas got leaked from Bhilai Steel Plant in Durg, Chhattisgarh. almost 6 persons were died and more than 30 people got ill.
In 2018, the ammonia gas was leaked from a plant in Ratnagiri, Mumbai. due to this, 14 people were got seriously ill.
