Union Minister Nityanand Rai inaugurated Dawki land port in Meghalaya – Union Minister Nityanand Rai inaugurated the Dawki land port in Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills district. it aims to promote trade and commerce between India and Bangladesh. Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar was also present during the inauguration. the land port will offer an impact on the tourism and business sectors.

  • The Dawki land port was constructed keeping in mind the requirements of both countries.
  • It will provide various facilities including a godown, canteen, cargo for tourists, and an electric substation.

Dawki land port inaugurated in Meghalaya:

  • The Dawki land port is situated in West Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya and is 55 km from the district headquarters, Jowai, and about 84 km from Meghalaya’s capital Shillong.
  • The related land port in Bangladesh is Tamabil, situated in the Sylhet district.
  • The port will act as vital trade and transportation hub between India and Bangladesh.
  • It aims to facilitate the movement of goods, people, and vehicles across the border.
