Total govt debt rises to Rs147.19 lakh crore in Q2 FY23

The finance ministry released the quarterly report on public debt management and as per the report, the total liabilities of the government have raised to ₹147.19 lakh crore in September-end from ₹145.72 lakh crore at the end of June this fiscal year.

  • A public debt registered for 88.3% of total gross liabilities in end-June 2022 and accounted for 89.1 percent of total gross liabilities in end-September 2022.
  • The monetary Policy Committee hiked the policy repo rate by 100 bps, i.e., from 4.90% to 5.90% during Q2 largely with an intention to contain inflation.
