22nd Commonwealth Games starts at Birmingham UK

The 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games has started off at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, the United Kingdom with a glitzy opening ceremony. A total of 72 teams participated in the parade into Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium. 

• PV Sindhu and Manpreet Singh headed as India’s flag-bearers at the parade of the CWG opening ceremony.
• The Prince of Wales, reading out from the Queen’s letter, declares the Games open.
• 6,500 athletes from 54 nations are participating in this sports extravaganza and will compete in 280 medal events.
• The 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games will be held from 29th July 2022 and will be held till the 8th of August.

International Tiger Day 2022

International Tiger Day is observed every year on July 29 to spread awareness on tiger conservation. this day is also called Global Tiger Day. Unfortunately, the tiger is one of the species that is nearing extinction.

• In 2010, on this day several countries signed the agreement at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit, which was held in Russia.
• The agreement aims to create awareness about the decreasing tiger population globally and preserve the tigers’ natural habitat.
• Apart from this, the representatives also agreed to double the tiger population by the end of the year 2022.
• This year’s theme for International Tiger Day 2022 is “India launches Project Tiger to revive the tiger population”.

World Hepatitis Day 2022

Every year, World Hepatitis Day is observed on 28 July to raise awareness of viral hepatitis. hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver that causes severe liver disease and hepatocellular cancer.

• The day of 28th July marks the birthday of Nobel-prize-winning scientist Dr Baruch Blumberg, who discovered the hepatitis B virus (HBV). apart from this, Blumberg also developed a diagnostic test and vaccine for the virus.
• The theme of World Hepatitis Day 2022 is ‘Bringing hepatitis care closer to you’.

World Nature Conservation Day 2022

Every year, World Nature Conservation Day is observed on July 28 across the world. it creates awareness among the masses about the conservation of natural resources, especially nonrenewable ones. it also highlights the importance of preserving the environment for our future generations.

• The history and origin of World Nature Conservation Day are unknown but this day is observed to introspect as a species on how humans are exploiting nature and take steps to conserve it.
