Centre launches Swachh Survekshan 2023
The Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Shri Manoj Joshi has launched the 8th edition of Swachh Survekshan (SS) – SS 2023 under Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0.
- The Theme of Swachh Survekshan 2023 is ‘Waste to Wealth’ as its driving philosophy and is curated towards achieving circularity in waste management.
- It gives priority to the principle of 3Rs – Reduce, Recycle and Reuse.
Ministry Of Education Releases National Achievement Survey Report (NAS) 2021
The Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education released National Achievement Survey (NAS) report on May 25, 2022. National Achievement Survey (NAS) aims to evaluate children’s progress and learning competencies as an indicator of the efficiency of the education system, so as to take appropriate steps for remedial actions at different levels.
- National Achievement Survey (NAS) will help in eliminating the gaps in learning and will support state/UT governments in developing long-term, mid-term and short-term interventions to improve learning levels and orient on differential planning based on NAS 2021 data.

RBI allows trade transactions settlement in INR with crisis-hit Sri Lanka
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given its permission to trade settlement in INR with Sri Lanka outside the ACU mechanism due to difficulties faced by exporters in receiving payments due to economic and political crises in the South Asian island country.
- State Bank of India (SBI) credited a $1 billion term loan for financing the purchase of essential goods by Sri Lanka from India in March 2022.

SEBI withdraws Permanent Recognition granted to Indian Commodity Exchange Ltd.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India has withdrawn the recognition granted to the Indian Commodity Exchange Limited in the exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (1) of section 5 of the Securities Contracts (Regulation) Act, 1956.
- It requested to set aside adequate assets to cover any claims, clear any outstanding Sebi debts, and pay Sebi registration costs in accordance with broker standards.

Ruskin Bond has authored A new book titled “Listen to Your Heart: The London Adventure”. the book was published by Penguin Random House India (PRHI) on Ruskin Bond’s 88th birthday (19th May 2022).
- Ruskin Bond is India’s famous Children’s book author.
- He was born in Kasauli (Himachal Pradesh) and grew up in Jamnagar (Gujarat), Dehradun (Uttarakhand), New Delhi and Shimla (Himachal Pradesh).
- The book gives readers a peek into the four years he spent in the Channel Islands and England.

India was ranked 54th place with a score of 4.2 in the global travel and tourism development index 2021. in 2019, India was in 46th position. however, India has still remained on top within South Asia.

- followed by the United States, Spain, France, and Germany were placed at 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.

Indian Navy – Bangladesh Navy Bilateral EX Bongosagar
The 3rd edition of Indian Navy (IN) – Bangladesh Navy (BN) Bilateral Exercise ‘Bongosagar’ was started at Port Mongla, Bangladesh on 24 May 2022.
- The Harbour Phase of the exercise begins from 24th May – to 25th May which will be followed by a Sea Phase in the Northern Bay of Bengal from 26th May – to 27 May.
- Exercise Bongosagar aims to develop a high degree of interoperability and joint operational skills through the conduct of a wide spectrum of maritime exercises and operations between the two navies.

A Gopalakrishnan won VASVIK industrial research award 2020
Dr A Gopalakrishnan has received the prestigious VASVIK (Vividhlaxi Audyogik Samshodhan Vikas Kendra) Industrial Research Award for the year 2020 in the category of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. Gopalakrishnan is a Director of the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI).
- VASVIK Industrial Research Award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1.51 lakh and citation.
- It is presented in recognition of his significant contribution to the research works related to fish genetics which is relevant for conserving many commercially important and endangered species.

- Bhashini will ensure citizens consume the internet and Digital Government service in their own languages.
- The Bhashini Platform will make AI and Natural Language Processing (NLP) resources available to MSMEs, Start-ups and individuals and will catalyse the entire Digital Ecosystem.

- Prior to this, Dr Tedros was first elected in 2017.
- Dr Tedros served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and as Minister of Health in Ethiopia.
