National

Flag Code of India 2002

Indian govt has made changes to the country’s flag code by allowing the tricolour to fly both day and night and be machine-made besides the use of polyester. The Centre will launch a ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ (hoisting of flag in every home) from August 13 to 15 as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

  • The act is now amended through an order on July 20, 2022, and clause (xi) of paragraph 2.2 of Part-II of the Flag Code of India, 2002 shall now be read as under:- (xi) “where the Flag is displayed in open or displayed on the house of a member of public, it may be flown day and night”.
  • The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign aims to encourage the citizens to hoist the national flag in their homes from August 13 to 15.

China launches second of three space station modules named ‘Wentian’

the Chinese space agency successfully launched the second of three modules called ‘Wentian’ to complete its new Tiangong space station, under its ambitious space programme.

  • The uncrewed craft Wentian means “quest for the heavens”.
  • In April 2021, The first and central module called Tiangong was launched which means “heavenly palace”.
  • The third and final module named Mengtian will be launched in October 2022.

Max Verstappen wins 2022 F1 French Grand Prix

Defending Formula One champion Max Verstappen won the French Grand Prix. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton finished second for Mercedes and George Russell secured third place.

  • This is his overall 27th race win and second consecutively at the French GP for Max Verstappen.

 The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) celebrates the 162nd Income Tax Day (also known as Aaykar Diwas) on July 24th Every year. The Aaykar Diwas or Income Tax Day aimed to compensate for the losses incurred by the British regime during the first war of independence against British Rule in 1857.

  • The Aaykar Diwas or Income Tax Day was first celebrated in 2010.
