Tata Steel commissions India’s first plant to capture CO2 from blast furnace gas

Tata Steel has commissioned India’s first carbon capture plant at its Jamshedpur Works, has become the first steel company in Indian that has adopted such a carbon capture technology. the plant will help in extracting CO2 directly from the blast furnace gas.

  • The Plant has the capability to capture 5 tonnes of CO2 per day (5-tonne per day (TPD)).
  • The plant will play an important role in resuing the captured CO2 on-site to promote a circular carbon economy.
  • In the last year 2020, Tata Steel partnered with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) for carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS). it also aims to build a strong ecosystem in the country for meeting the decarbonisation commitments under the Paris Agreement.
