India and Nepal Armies will participate in a two-week mega military exercise called ‘Surya Kiran’ to boost interoperability in jungle warfare and counter-terror operations. The 16th Edition of the ‘Surya Kiran’ exercise will be held at the Army Battle School in Nepal’s Saljhandi area from 16 December 2022 to 29 December 2022.
- ‘Surya Kiran’ exercise aims to enhance interoperability in jungle warfare and counter-terrorism operations in mountainous terrain.
- The joint military exercise will enhance the level of defense cooperation which will further foster the bilateral relations between India and Nepal.
16th Edition of the ‘Surya Kiran’ exercise
- From the Indian side, 5 Gorkha Rifles and Shree Bhawani Baksh Battalion from the Nepal side will join the exercise.
- The joint exercise will focus on the evolution of combined drills for planning and conduct of tactical operations at the unit level in counter-terrorism operations and disaster response mechanisms in general and the role of armed forces in the management of disaster.
