Spitting offence – MHA :
- MHA created a new act on Spitting under Section 51B of the Disaster Management Act.
- 16 April 2020 Today Current Affairs: The Indian Government has created a Spitting in public act a punishable offence under the strict Disaster Management Act. the Union Ministry of Home Affairs shared this information about its revised guidelines.
- According to new guidelines, everyone has to wear face masks in public places. it becomes mandatory now.
- MHA declared spitting punishable under Section 51 (b) of the Disaster Management Act. it also includes fine.
- Before, under municipal laws in various cities, it was an offence but, it had not been taken seriously by people.
- Some states of India such as Assam, Bihar, Haryana, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Jharkhand, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand have already taken a step to ban tobacco products and spitting in public places during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Finally, MHA applied law very strictly with imposing a ban on liquor, tobacco, gutka’s sales. MHA has made spitting prohibited in public places.
