Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan – Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is the Government of India’s flagship programme that aims to achieve Universalization of Elementary Education (UEE) in a time-bound manner, as mandated by the 86th amendment to the Constitution of India make ensure free and compulsory Education to the Children of 6-14 years age group, a Fundamental Right.

  • Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (सर्व शिक्षा अभियान) 2001 was started by Atal Bihari Bajpayee, aiming to provide free and compulsory education to 6-14-year-olds. There are 8 main programs in the SSA.

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan: Objectives

  • By 2003 all should be in school.
  • Completion of 5 years of primary education by 2007 and 8 years of schooling by 2010.
  • Emphasizing on satisfactory quality and education for life.
  • Eliminate all gender and social differences at the primary level by 2007 and at the elementary level by 2010.

SSA Initiatives

Padhe Bharat Badhe BharatIt aims to improve the reading and writing skills of Class I and Class II children, and their mathematics skills.
A twin-track approach: Early Reading and Writing with Comprehension – in order to improve language development with the help of reading and writing through comprehension
Early Mathematics – To create interest in Maths in relation to the physical and social world
Shagun PortalAims to monitor the progress of SSA,
was launched in 2017.
Shaala – SiddhiSchool Standard Evaluation Programme (Shaala – Siddhi) is an initiative that aims to achieve the goals of SSA. 
Swachh VidyalayaNational Campaign – Clean India: Clean Schools
It ensures every school in India has a set of functioning and well-maintained water, sanitation and hygiene facilities.
