Qatar Hosts 2023 AFC Asian Cup; India & Saudi Arabia Shorlisted for 2027 AFC Asian Cup – Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced that Qatar will host next year’s Asian Cup in place of original host China after seeing off rival bids from South Korea and Indonesia.
- The Gulf state hosted the Asian Cup twice before in 1988 and 2011 and won the last edition in the United Arab Emirates in 2019.
- The gas and oil-rich country have established 7 stadiums and upgraded another around the capital Doha to host the 32-team World Cup finals in November and December.
- The AFC executive committee has shortlisted the bids from India and Saudi Arabia for that tournament with a final decision to be made at their next meeting in February.
