Poshan Pakhwada 2021 observing from 16th to 31st March

The Ministry of Women and Child Development is observing Poshan Pakhwada 2021. the Poshan Pakhwada was started on 16th March 2021 and will end on 31st March 2021.

Poshan Pakhwada 2021: highlights

  • it will address nutritional challenges, distribution of 4 saplings of nutrition-rich plants per Anganwadi Centre (AWC) in the Aspirational Districts and it will be held under the supervision of local panchayat and DM/DC by National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), Ministry of AYUSH.

Objectives of Poshan Abhiyan

  • Prevent and lessen Stunting in children (0- 6 years)
  • Reduce Low Birth Weight (LBW)
  • Prevent and lessen under-nutrition (underweight prevalence) in children (0-6 years)
  • lessen the prevalence of anemia among Women and Adolescent Girls in the age group of 15-49 years
  • Reduce the prevalence of anemia among young Children(6-59 months)

Poshan Abhiyaan/Pakhwada History

  • On 8th March 2018, PM Modi launched Poshan Abhiyaan in order to make improvements for nutritional outcomes in a holistic manner in convergence with other Ministries.
  • During Poshan Maah in September month 2020, the establishment of Poshan Vatika gained momentum, as a result of which 10.87 lakhs plantation drives in the form of Kitchen Garden operated at Anganwadi level.
