National Youth Day 2024: National Youth Day, also known as Vivekananda Jayanti or Yuva Diwas, is celebrated on January 12 every year. The day also commemorates the birth anniversary of a great Indian Saint, Spiritual Leader, and philosopher – Swami Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda, a motivational speaker was born on January 12, 1863, in an aristocratic Bengali family.

Vivekananda is known for promoting the philosophy of Vedanta and Yoga across the world. He was the disciple of mystic Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. Swami Vivekananda delivered a speech at the Art Institute of Chicago, as part of the World’s Columbian Exposition on September 11, 1983. He talked about the humanistic values of Hinduism. Impressed by his speech, the audience presented him with a two-minute standing ovation.

In 1984, The National Youth Day was first celebrated by the Government of India. The day aimed to motivate the youths to follow the correct path, foster national integration, and spread the ideology of Swami Vivekananda.
