Every year, “National Milk Day” is celebrated on 26th November in India. this day commemorates the birth anniversary of the Father of India’s White Revolution, Dr Verghese Kurien.

  • As well College of Dairy Science & Technology (CODST) and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) will conduct the “Milk Adulteration Testing Camp” on 25 and 26 November 2021 on the ocassion of the National Milk Day.

  • All the dairy majors of India designated this day in the collaboration of the Indian Dairy Association resolved in 2014, and selected November 26th as National Milk Day to observe. this day also pays tribute to Dr Verghese Kurien. November 26 is the birthday of Dr Kurien.

Who was Dr Verghese Kurien?

  • Dr Verghese Kurien was a social entrepreneur who operated Operation Flood. Operation Flood is the one the largest agricultural dairy development programme in the world.
  • Dr Verghese Kurien is also called ‘Father of the White Revolution’ in India.
  • He played an important role in making India as the largest milk producer of the world, from a milk-deficient country.
  • Dr Kurien also had served the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) in between 1973 to 2006.
