  • The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare(MoHFW) has shared information among the public that Drug Controller General of India(DCGI) has provided its approval to launch India’s first fully indigenously developed vaccine against pneumonia named as Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Conjugate Vaccine. M/s. Serum Institute of India Pvt. Ltd based Pune has developed this Vaccine.
  • After granting permission by DCGI, Company will introduce vaccine domestically.

About Polysaccharide Conjugate Vaccines

  • The Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Conjugate inoculation will be very useful for active immunization against invasive disease and pneumonia which is caused by ‘Streptococcus pneumonia’ in infants.
  • DCGI granted its permission after conducting Phase I, Phase II and Phase III clinical trials of the Vaccine in the country.
