Mount Mary Festival 2023: Date, History, Significance & Know About The Bandra Fair In Mumbai – The ‘Mount Mary Festival’ is observed on September 8 in honour of the memory of ‘Mother Mary, who was born on September 8. It is also known as ‘Bandra Fair’ and takes place at the ‘Mount Mary Church’ also known as ‘Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount’ in Bandra, Mumbai.
The festival starts on the 1st Sunday after 8 September every year as it is believed as the birthday of the ‘Virgin Mary’. ‘Mount Mary Fair’, In 2023, will be celebrated from September 10 to September 17.
History of the Mount Mary Church in Bandra
It is believed that Portugal priests who first built the chapel, are credited with having transported the statuette here.
In 1700 AD, The statue was replaced with a statue of ‘Our Lady of Navigators’. The church was refurbished and reconstructed in 1761 AD.
