Karnataka Launches Gruha Lakshmi Scheme for Women Supporting Households – Karnataka Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah launched the registration for the Gruha Lakshmi Scheme 2023 on 19th July 2023. The scheme aims to provide Rs 2,000 monthly assistance to the woman head of the households.

  • Karnataka Gruha Lakshmi Scheme will give benefits to over 1.28 crore families across the state.
  • Under the scheme, the beneficiaries will get a cash benefit of Rs 2,000 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Gruha Lakshmi Scheme – Background

  • The Siddaramaiah-led Congress government promised to start a new chem to help Rs 2,000 monthly assistance to the woman head of the households.
  • The Gruha Lakshmi scheme will come into effect from August 15, 2023, on the occasion of India’s Independence Day.
  • Karnataka Government released an amount of Rs 24,166 crore for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme for the 2023-24 fiscal year.

Gruha Lakshmi Scheme – Eligibility

  • Applicants are women whose names show as the head of the family on Antyodaya, Below Poverty Line (BPL), and Above Poverty Line (APL) cards.
  • Should not be taxpayers.
  • A woman who is a government employee will not be covered under the scheme.

Gruha Lakshmi Scheme – Registration Process

  • Applicants can register for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme both online and offline.
  • One can apply for this Scheme through common service centers such as Karnataka-1, Bengaluru-1, Grama-1, or Bapuji Seva Kendra centers.
  • Applicants can visit the official portal of the Seva Sindhu Guarantee scheme to get themselves registered online.

The Karnataka Govt released an amount of Rs 52,000 crore to their five main poll promises including for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme in the 2023-24 fiscal year State Budget.

  • Under the Anna Bhagya scheme, every individual from a BPL family and an ‘Antyodaya’ household will be provided 10 kg of free rice every month.
  • Eligible citizens will be given a two-year payment of Rs 3,000 per month for unemployed graduates and Rs 1,500 per month for unemployed diploma holders under the Yuva Nidhi scheme.
  • The Uchita Prayana scheme was launched to offer free bus travel to all women across the state.
  • The Gruha Jyothi scheme aims to offer 200 units of free electricity.
