Balbir Singh Dosanjh passes away
- The Ex hockey player of India Balbir Singh Dosanjh has taken his last breath at the age of 96. he remained as a part of Indian hockey team that earned three(3)-time Olympic gold medals such as London Olympics (1948), Helsinki Olympics (1952), and Melbourne Olympics (1956). during 1956 Olympics, he leaded as captain of the Indian team that achieved gold medal.
Awards and achievements
- in 1957, He was honoured with the Padma Shri award. Dominican Republic issued stamps to feature on Balbir Singh and Gurdev Singh to commemorate the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
- in 2006, Balbir was nominated as the Best Sikh Hockey Player. besides this, he got the Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award of Hockey India.
