India Post begins 5 Star Villages Scheme

• The Posts Department has begun the Five Star Villages Scheme under Communications Ministry. the main purpose of it is to make ensure universal coverage of flagship postal Yojanas in rural regions of the nation. Communications Minister Sanjay Dhotre introduced this scheme.

Five Star Villages Scheme –

• The main objective of the Five Star Villages Scheme is to reduce the gaps between public awareness and will make a reach of postal products and services.
• As per the Yojana, all postal products and services will be offered to people and will be available at the rural level.
• The branch offices are going to act as one-stop-shop to fulfil the needs of rural people.

Five Star scheme includes the schemes they are –

• Savings Bank accounts, Recurrent Deposit Accounts, National Savings Certificate (NSC) / Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) certificates, 
• Sukanya Samridhi Accounts/ Public Provident Fund (PPF) Accounts, 
• Funded Post Office Savings Account linked India Post Payments Bank Accounts,
• Postal Life Insurance Policy / Rural Postal Life Insurance Policy
• Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana Account / Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana Account

• These 5 Yojanas will come into effect with the help of 5 Gramin Dak Sevaks teams. the team will be given a village to market Department of Posts’ products, savings, and insurance schemes and so on.
