Goa Liberation Day 2021: Every year, Goa’s Liberation Day is marked on 19th December in India. it aims to recognise the achievements of Goa in the tourism sector and also for being the highest per capita income among all the states and Union Territories in the country.
- This day also highlights enormous celebrations and events which bring honour to the country’s smallest state.
Goa Liberation Day 2021: History
- Goa was under Portuguese rule for 14 years after India’s independence. Prime Minister Shri Jawaharlal Nehru sent armed forces to which the Portuguese surrendered and the coastal state acquired its liberation on December 19th, 1961.
- As a result, Goa was inducted in Indian Union and was declared the Union Territory of India along with Daman and Diu.
