Each year, Euro Day is celebrated on January 1 in memorial of when 11 European nations accepted the euro, starting a new era for the continent. All will know that the idea of a European currency was raised as early as 1929. The euro is a currency which is a legal tender by 19 countries, including Croatia, Denmark, Sweden, and Hungary. It is also adopted by non-E.U. member territories such as Andorra, Monaco, Vatican City, Kosovo, and Montenegro.
History of the euro
The euro came into existence on 1 January 1999. The Maastricht Treaty joined into force in 1993 to create an economic and monetary union (EMU) by 1999 for all EU states except the UK and Denmark.
