Every year, Ethnicity Day is celebrated on the 3rd Saturday in October. In 2023, it will be celebrated on October 21. The main purpose of the day is to better inform the public of Estonia, with the country being a member of the Finno-Ugric nations, to value their origin, cultural heritage, and language more.
Estonia is the northernmost of the three Baltic states and is situated in northeastern Europe. Estonia’s land holds almost 1,500 islands and islets. Ethnicity Day aims to dedicate to Estonia’s unique language cultural identity, and national culture.
Ethnicity Day – History
Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania achieved their independence from the Soviet Union on September 6, 1991 and joined the United Nations. In 2004, The country joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union (E.U.).
