Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to participate in programme to mark Parakram Diwas

On 23rd January 2023, Various programmes are being conducted in Odisha to mark Parakram Diwas- the 126th birth anniversary of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose and the birth anniversary of famous freedom fighter Veer Surendra Sai.

  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will also join a programme in Sambalpur to mark the birth anniversary of two of the illustrious sons of the country.

On January 23rd, The 126th birth anniversary of the great freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is being celebrated across the country. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was born on 23rd January 1897 in Cuttack, Odisha. The day is celebrated as Parakram Diwas.

5th Kalvari class submarine INS Vagir to be inducted into Indian Navy

The fifth Kalvari class submarine INS Vagir will be inducted into Indian Navy on January 23rd, 2023. The submarine has been built in India by Mumbai’s Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited in collaboration with France-based Naval Group.

  • Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral R Hari Kumar will commission the submarine.
  • 5th Kalvari class submarine INS Vagir will boost Indian Navy’s capabilities as it is capable of undertaking diverse missions including anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering, mine laying, and surveillance missions.
  • It is named after Sand Shark, which represents ‘Stealth and Fearlessness’, two qualities that are synonymous with the ethos of a submariner.

Indian films get awards for the best scriptwriter and best actress at DIFF

Two Indian films received awards for the best script writer and best actress in the Asian Film Competition section at the 21st Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF). DIFF was concluded on 22nd January 2023.

  • Aparajito (The Undefeated) Film directed by Anik Dutta got the best scriptwriting award.
  • Ketaki Narayan was given the best actress for her role in Krishnendu Kalesh-directed film Prappeda (Hawk’s Muffin).
  • Japan’s Ikkei Watanabe has been presented the best actor award for the film Nakodo- Matchmakers (Marriage Counsellor) directed by Naoki MaedaAli Ghavitan from Iran gained the best director award for the film Zendegi va Zendegi (Life and Life).

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde conferred Hindustani vocalist Padma Vibhushan Dr Prabha Atre with the Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr Atre received a citation and Rs 1 lakh at the program. Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia Lifetime Achievement Awards are presented for promoting arts and would also promote classical music.

Thai shuttler Kunlavut Vitidsarn won the India Open title and beat World No.1 Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen in the men’s singles final of the India Open Badminton Championship 22-20, 10-21 and 21-12 at K. D. Jadhav Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.

The birth anniversary of one of the greatest Indian freedom fighters – Subhash Chandra Bose is celebrated on 23 January as Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti. The revolutionary and nationalist ideas of Subhash Chandra Bose played important role in getting India’s independence from British colonial rule and also created patriotism in the hearts of younger generations.
