NCW launches Digital Shakti 4.0 for making women digitally skilled

The National Commission for Women (NCW) launched the 4th phase of the Digital Shakti Campaign, a pan-India project that aims to digitally empower and skill women and girls in cyberspace in collaboration with CyberPeace Foundation and Meta. Digital Shakti 4.0 will make women digitally skilled and aware of standing up against any illegal/inappropriate activity online.

  • It will also ensure safe cyber spaces for women and will help in contributing towards the larger goal of fighting cyber violence against women and girls and making the internet a safer space for them.

Digital Shakti

  • Digital Shakti was started in June 2018, aimed at helping women across the nation to raise the awareness level on the digital front, to build resilience, and fight cybercrime in the most effective ways.
  • Under the Digital Shakti project, over 3 lakh women across India were made aware of cyber safety tips and tricks, reporting and redressal mechanisms, data privacy, and usage of technology for their benefit.

Digital Shakti Phase 3

  • The third phase of the program was begun in March 2021 and was launched by NCW Chairperson in the presence of Lieutenant Governor Radha Krishna Mathur and Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, MP, Ladakh at Leh.
  • Under the 3rd phase of the program, a Resource Center was also developed for providing information on all the avenues of reporting in case a woman faces any cybercrime.

IFSCA executes MoU with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)

The International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaboration in the field of regulation and supervision of regulated entities in their respective jurisdictions.

  • The MoU aims to strengthen the safety, stability and soundness of respective financial ecosystems and nurturing environments conducive to optimal business development and economic growth.

India Ranks at 8th On Global List For Climate Protection

India climbed two spots to rank 8th out of 63 in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2023. India’s improvement is due to its low emissions and the increasing use of renewable energy. The three environmental non-governmental organizations published the Climate Change Performance Index report 2022 on November 14, 2022. The three environmental non-governmental organizations track the climate performance of the European Union and 59 countries.

  • As per the Climate Change Performance Index, The United States climbed by three ranks to the 52nd, Iran (63rd), Saudi Arabia (62nd), and Kazakhstan (61st) as the worst.
  • Denmark is at 4th rank in the index, followed by Sweden and Chile.
  • China is the world’s biggest polluter, slipped 13 places to 51st in CCPI 2022.

Climate Change Performance Index: Objective

  • The Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) has been released since 2005 to enhance transparency in international climate politics.
  • The CCPI also enables the comparison of individual countries’ climate protection efforts and progress.

Climate Change Performance Index

  • The Climate Change Performance Index enables transparency in national and international climate politics.
  • The index uses a standardized framework to compare the climate performance of 59 countries and the European Union which are responsible for 92%of global greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The Climate Protection Performance has four categories: 1) Greenhouse Gas emissions, 2) Renewable Energy, 3) Energy use, and 4) Climate Policy.

Arvind Virmani appointed full-time member of NITI Aayog

The government has appointed senior economist Dr. Arvind Virmani as a full-time member of the NITI Aayog. Dr. Arvind Virmani is the founder-chairman of the non-profit public policy organization Foundation for Economic Growth and Welfare. he has served as the Chief Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance during the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government from 2007-09.

  • On 15th November 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved Virmani’s appointment as a full-time member of NITI Aayog and the Cabinet Secretariat issued a notification regarding this.
  • The NITI Aayog has three members — Dr V K Saraswat, Professor Ramesh Chand and Dr V K Paul. 

Who is Arvind Virmani

  • Virmani holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, USA, and has also served as Principal Advisor, Planning Commission.
  • Virmani served in various capacities in the government.
  • He also served as a member of the Reserve Bank of India’s Technical Advisory Committee on Monetary Policy from February 2013 to August 2016.
  • He served at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Washington DC.
  • Virmani served as the Chief Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance for two years from 2007-2009, when P Chidambaram was the Minister of Finance.
  • Virmani was appointed the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund in 2019.
  • he represented India (as its Ambassador to IMF), Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan.

Pankaj R Patel appointed as new chairperson of IIM Ahmedabad Board

The Indian Institute of Ahmedabad (IIM-A) appointed Pankaj R Patel as the new chairperson of the IIM-A Board of Governors. Pankaj R Patel will replace Kumar Mangalam Birla, who completed his four years term and will serve as the 14th chairperson of the IIM-A since the institute was founded in 1961.

  • Pankaj R Patel served as a member of the IIM-A Board of Governors for eight years.
  • He is the chairman of Zydus Lifesciences Ltd.

The Tamil Nadu Government honored Tiruvarur Ennarasu Karunesan with the V.O.C Award for the development of various ports including Chennai Kamarajar and Kattupalli. A 41-year-old Indian-origin Sikh volunteer Amar Singh has been honored along with three others with the prestigious 2023 New South Wales Australian of the Year Award for supporting the community during floods, bushfires, drought, and the pandemic.

Asian Airgun Championship: India Continues Golden Run With Four More Medals

Shiva Narwal wins the men’s 10m air pistol and Sagar Dangi picked up the junior men’s gold. Sagar Dang won gold in the junior men’s air pistol and defeated Samrat Rana 17-13 to claim gold. Sandeep Bishnoi, Sahil, and Amit Sharma beat a Korean team 16-8 in the gold medal clash in the men’s10m air pistol Youth. Kanishka Dagar, Yashsavi Joshi, and Harnavdeep Kaur won the final match against the Korean team in the women’s 10m air pistol youth event.
