Mahila Samman Savings Certificate Scheme

Under the Mahila Samman Savings Certificate Scheme, Over 14 lakh 83 thousand accounts were opened with total deposits of over 8,000 crore rupees. the newly launched small savings scheme has been exclusively for women and girls. Govt authorized the Department of Posts, all Public Sector Banks, and four Private Sector Banks to operate Mahila Samman Savings Scheme. The scheme will be available for a two-year period up to March 2025.

Former Kerala speaker Vakkom Purushothaman passes away in Thiruvananthapuram

Kerala speaker and senior Congress leader Vakkom Purushothaman

Former Kerala speaker and senior Congress leader Vakkom Purushothaman passed away at the age of 95 at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram. He was elected to the Kerala Assembly five times from the Attingal Assembly constituency and became a minister thrice. He worked as the longest-serving Speaker of the Kerala assembly, from 1982 to 1984 and again from 2001 to 2004.

  • Also, he was appointed twice to the Lok Sabha from Alappuzha constituency and served from 1984 to 1991.
  • Purushothaman worked as the 6th Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from 1993 to 1996, the Governor of Mizoram from 2011 to 2014, and the Governor of Tripura for two months in 2014.
