On 28th October 2021, Indian origin and Canadian politician Anita Anand has been appointed as the defence minister in Justin Trudeau’s Cabinet. Anita become the 2nd woman to be appointed as Canada’s National Defence Minister. prior to this, Kim Campbell became Canada’s National Defence Minister in the 1990s.

  • The 54-year-old Anita Anand has replaced long-time serving Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan who has been appointed as minister of international development.

Who Is Anita Anand

  • Anita Anand is an Indian-origin politician and has won her re-election to the Canadian Parliament in September 2021.
  • She was born in 1967 in Kentville, Nova Scotia and her mother was Punjabi and her father was Tamilian and both were physicians.
  • She has worked as a legal associate and as a law professor.
  • She has also served as the Minister of Public Services and Procurement.
