Every year, Ancestry Day is observed in Haiti on January 2. It is a national holiday to mark the sacrifices and struggles of the Haitian ancestors who laid down their lives in the fight for freedom. The day also remembers all the loss of lives during the Haitian Revolution and the people’s struggle for emancipation and self-determination, which culminated in a declaration of independence on January 1, 1804.
