Zero Discrimination Day 2023: History, Purpose, Theme – Every year, the day of 1st March is observed as Zero Discrimination Day across the world. This day highlights the urgent need to take action against the inequalities in income, age, sex, health status, colour, race, occupation, sexual orientation, religion, gender and ethnicity.

The main purpose of this day is to ensure the right to equality, inclusion and protection of all people without any discrimination in their laws and policies to live a full life with dignity regardless of any barriers.

Zero Discrimination Day 2023: History

  • in 2013, The Director of UNAIDS Mr Michel Sidibé launched Zero Discrimination Day and it was celebrated for the first time on 1st March 2014.

  • The theme of this year’s Zero Discrimination Day is “Save lives: Decriminalise” highlighting how the decriminalisation of key populations and people living with HIV saves lives and helps advance the end of the AIDS pandemic.

  • Theme of Zero Discrimination Day 2021: “End Inequalities”.
