World Lion Day 2023: Date, Significance, and History

Every year, World Lion Day is observed on August 10th, which aims to increase understanding about the conservation and safeguarding of lions. The day also creates an opportunity to inform individuals about the difficulties these magnificent animals encounter across the globe and to endorse initiatives for their preservation. The purpose of the day is to honor these grandiose felines, recognizing their importance in ecosystems and various cultures globally.

World Lion Day 2023 History

In 2013, World Lion Day was first established by Big Cat Rescue, the world’s largest accredited sanctuary, aimed at dedicating to lions. The sanctuary was co-founded by Dereck and Beverly Joubert, a husband-and-wife team who recognized the need to draw attention to the declining lion populations and the threats they were facing in the wild.
