Who is Suman Gawani
- Indian Army officer Major Suman Gawani is going to receive the UN Military Gender Advocate of the Year 2019. Suman Gawani will be as the first (1st) officer that will earn award. under the United Nations Mission, Suman was posted in South Sudan. at the latest, she got success in completing her mission.
- She became the part of Indian Army in the year 2011 where she studied graduation from the Officers Training Academy. after completing graduation, she went to join the Army Signal Corps. Gawani lives from Pokhar village in Tehri Garwhal, Uttarakhand.
- During a web ceremony, This award will be given to Major Suman Gawani and Brazilian military officer Commander Carla Monteiro de Castro Araujo. UN Secretary-General Guterres will head the web ceremony on 29th May 2020.
About the UN Military Gender Advocate Award:
- In the year 2015, the process of selecting recipients was started and in next year, first award was given. the main objective of this award is to lift up the profile and understanding of what mainstreaming a gender perspective, within a military context, means for UN Peacekeeping missions.
