Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar to inaugurate International Conference on dam safety at Jaipur in Rajasthan – On 14 September 2023, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will inaugurate the International Conference on Dam Safety at Jaipur in Rajasthan. Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is also going to inaugurate the National Centre for Earthquake Safety, at MNIT Jaipur, ahead of the international conference.

- As per the Jal Shakti Ministry, there are over 6,000 dams in India and India is ranked 3rd globally in terms of large dams. Approximately 80% of these dams are over 25 years of age.
- Dams have played an important role in fulfilling the increasing demand for drinking water, irrigation, hydropower and flood protection.
