Brown and Caldwell offer $1,000 for up to four (4) years of schooling (for a total of $4,000) to support and encourage U.S. Native American students who are passionate about furthering their STEM knowledge and skills in preparation for a career in the environmental profession.

Eligibility Criteria

Follow the Eligibility Criteria to apply for the program.

  • Must be an enrolled member of a federally or state-recognized Tribe.
  • Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be afull-time student enrolled at an accredited two-year junior or four-year undergraduate college, or a senior in high school with a letter of acceptance from the college or university to be attended.
  • Must have or intend to declare a major in civil, chemical, mechanical, electrical or environmental engineering or one of the environmental sciences (e.g. geology, hydrogeology, ecology).
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent on a 5.0 scale).
  • Must not have been previously awarded a BC scholarship.

Application Process

Here’s, what you must provide besides your application.

  • An essay of 250 words minimum, “A foot in both worlds and how I can bridge them with engineering.”
  • Two written recommendations, with at least one from a high school or university official (e.g. advisor, professor).
  • An official transcript of your academic record.
  • A resume (including previous work experience)
  • Proof of Tribal enrollment such as a Certificate Degree of Indian Blood copy, Tribal membership card, OR a letter of enrollment/descendancy from the Tribal enrollment office.
  • Evidence of a declared major.

Selection Process

Here, check out the process of how students will be selected for the program.

Applicants will be selected based on their work experience, service to the community, passion for environmental studies, and academics. It is required to have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent on a 5.0 scale).
