Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated the National Training Center for Food Safety and Standards Commission of India

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya at the inauguration of the state-of-the-art National Training Centre for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) at Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. It is an essential initiative aimed at providing structured instruction, practice, and learning experiences to bridge the gap between existing knowledge or skills and desired knowledge or skills in the field of food safety and standards.

  • It serves the void that previously existed, ensuring the development of a future-ready workforce committed to ensuring safe and wholesome food for the citizens of India.
  • An e-learning app- Food Safety and Certification (FoSTaC) developed by FSSAI was also launched that includes learning and training modules about food safety guidelines, such as proper food handling, storage, and hygiene practices etc., for street vendors.
  • Dr Mandaviya also released two books developed by FSSAI – Millets (Shree Anna) Recipes- A Healthy Menu for Mess/Canteens and Healthy Gut, Healthy You – Traditional Recipes with potential probiotic benefits.

Air Marshal Rajesh Kumar Anand took over as Air Officer-in-Charge Administration (AOA)

Air Marshal Rajesh Kumar Anand, Vishisht Seva Medal assumed charge as Air Officer-in-Charge Administration (AOA) on 01 Jun 2023. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, the Air Marshal was commissioned in the Administrative Branch of the Indian Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller on 13 Jun 1987.

  • He also completed the Higher Air Command Course from the College of Air Warfare and the Area Control Course from the Singapore Aviation Academy.
  • He has given over 36 years in Air Force and has served as Director General (Administration) at Air Headquarters, New Delhi.
  • For his distinguished service, he was honoured with Vishisht Seva Medal in January 2022 by the President of India.

Air Commodore Sanjay Chopra took charge of Hinton Air Force Base

Air Commodore Sanjay Chopra assumed charge as command of Air Force Station Hindan from Air Commodore Vinay Pratap Singh on 01 Jun 23. An impressive parade was held on this occasion. In 1995, Air Commodore Sanjay Chopra was commissioned as Helicopter Pilot in the Indian Air Force.

  • He is a Qualified Flying Instructor and has flown more than 4700 hours.
  • He is an alumnus of the College of Air Warfare, Secunderabad.
  • He held commanded a Helicopter Unit, and a Flying Station and has held various operational appointments.
  • He was honoured with the Vayu Sena Medal.

Upadhyay takes over as Director General of Naval Armament

Shri P Upadhyay, INAS assumed charge as Director General of Naval Armament (DGONA) at IHQ MoD (Navy) from Shri KSC lyer, who superannuated on 31 May 23. Shri P Upadhyay is associated with the 1987 batch of the Indian Naval Armament Service.

  • He joined the Naval Armament Organization of the Indian Navy on 12 Jul 1989.
  • He is an Electrical Engineering Graduate from SGSITS Indore, he earned his Post Graduate degree from Devi Ahilya University in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in ‘Digital Techniques and Instrumentation’ in 1988 and in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pune with a specialisation in ‘Guided Missiles’, in 1995.
  • He served for various important assignments at NAD (Visakhapatnam), NAD (Karanja), NAD (Trombay), NAD (Alwaye) and IHQ, MoD(N) during a span of 34 years.
  • He is an alumnus of the Naval Defence College of NDC-53.

Bidyut Bihari Swain sworn in as UPSC member

Former Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) secretary Bidyut Bihari Swain was sworn in as a UPSC member and was administered the oath of office and secrecy by UPSC chairman Manoj Soni. Bidyut Bihari Swain is a 1988 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Gujarat cadre.

  • A UPSC member is selected for a term of 6 years or until attaining 65 years of age.
  • Swain was to superannuate in September 2023 after turning 60, the age of retirement.
  • Swain served the government of Gujarat at the district and state levels from 1989 to 2018.
  • In 2018, he joined the government of India as an additional secretary in the Department of Commerce in charge of Special Economic Zones, trade negotiations of India with Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, and export insurance.
  • He served as chairperson of the Kimberley Protocol and Commissioner General of India, World Expo-Dubai, according to his official biodata.
  • Swain holds a Master of Arts (MA) degree in political science from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and a Masters in Public Policy and Management from The Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, The Netherlands.

  • The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) completes a civil services examination every year to choose officers of the IAS, Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.

Veer Chotrani, Anahat Singh win National Circuit Squash Championship

Maharashtra’s Veer Chotrani and Delhi’s Anahat Singh won the men’s and women’s singles titles at the National Circuit Squash Tournament. The Tournament is jointly sponsored by Rubicon Consumer Healthcare and HPITS.

  • Chotrani beat Suraj Market in straight sets 11-9, 11-8, 11-6, and Anahat beat Urvashi 11-7, 11-8, 11-3 to become the senior champion.

Telangana Statehood Day on 2nd June

In 2014, India’s 28th state — Telangana which was founded on June 2nd — celebrate its Formation Day on Friday, June 2 in 2023. The day commemorates the contribution of people to form a separate state, outside of Andhra Pradesh. The 30 districts of Telangana honour the day by hoisting the national flag and by honouring the people of Telangana for remarkable achievements in science, art and literature.
