Senior Chinese diplomat Zhang Ming takes charge of Secretary-General of SCO – China’s senior diplomat Zhang Ming has assumed the charge as the new Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
- Zhang Ming has replaced Vladimir Norov, former Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan who has completed his term.
- Zhang Ming’s appointment will come into effect from 1st January 2022 and will serve a three-year period.
About Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO)
- The headquarters of the SCO is located in Beijing, China.
- The SCO comprises eight member states: India, Kazakhstan, China, the Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
- India and Pakistan joined SCO at the Astana summit in 2017.
